Alexa Ibarra has been a friend and yogi for quite some time. After connecting on Instagram, Team Gypset fell in love with her pretty quickly. We were really excited to interview her because this yoga teacher has a lot more then pretty outfits and poses in her arsenal.

Where are you currently based and what's your occupation?

New York. I am a yoga teacher as well as a stylist.

I got into yoga my senior year of college after eating way too much while studying abroad in Spain. It provided a workout that I actually enjoyed and was so easy to integrate into my lifestyle.

It was something that was consistent in my life. I discovered it at a transitional time but I could always go back to my mat. It's that is always going to be there for you.

What is your fitness regimen outside of yoga?

I don't really have one. I try to run 3 miles a day but that's very seasonal because I don't like the gym. As it gets cold, I run less.

Eat what you want but beware that food does effect the way your body feels. So, if burgers make you bloated know it isn't working for your particular body.

People shouldn't feel bad for wanting alone time. You need to balance and restore yourself. It's just allowing yourself sanity.

"How Deep is Your Love" Calvin Harris & "Stimulated" Tyga.

The beats and vibes get me ready to go! But choosing two is so hard because I am so in love with music.

I love Lululemon, Beach Riot, Alo, and these Blue Life leggings.

I feel like there is so much to come but I am proud of my self motivation. I really try to choose what is right for me and that shows in my personal life and work ethic. I take every opportunity to grow and go never be stagnant.

Be who you and say how you feel because those who matter don't mind and those who matter don't mind.

ICONS OF INDUSTRY

I’m in love. With the Alo Goddess Leggings. They are part leg warmer, part legging, all connected in one amazing pair of leggings. I have to admit, I’m a fan of the name too. =)

They come in so many different colors and they are all super cute.

The top portion is a nylon/spandex mix that moves well, but also really holds everything in and up in a flattering way. The bottom “legwarmer” section is a performance rib knit, which actually breathes really well.

When I wear these I they remind me of my teenage years as a rhythmic gymnast. They got me feeling nostalgic enough to try stretching over splits, which I haven’t tried in at least 5 years, and I surprised myself. I was able to get closer to the floor than I expected.

OH MY GODDESS... LEGGINGS

This week’s yoga pose of the week is: Standing Bow pose. The secrets to success with this yoga pose are a strong foundation and a balance of force. Create a strong foundation by continuously keeping your standing leg engaged right from the start. Create balance of force by focusing on reaching forward and kicking back with equal and opposing force.

Here is a step-by-step guide to safely and successfully practice this yoga pose.

1. Start standing in mounting pose with your feet together and your arms by your sides.

2. Inhale your left arm, bend your right knee, and reach your right hand back to catch the INSIDE of your foot or ankle.

3. Squeeze your knees together for a second and feel your inner thighs engage. Keep this sensation in your standing leg throughout the entire pose. Without a strong foundation, your pose will crumble.

4. Find your stability. Distribute your weight equally throughout all 4 corners of your standing foot.

5. Begin to pivot your body as you reach your left arm forward and kick your right foot back with equal and opposing force.
*If you start to fall forward, kick harder. If you start to fall backward, reach further.

6. Gazing out past your fingertips, focus on one spot.

7. Keep your chin by your left shoulder and allow your right shoulder to fall into line behind your shoulder.

8. Keep kicking and reaching until you find your limit. If you fall, get right back into it and try again.

9. Once you find your limit, stay there and breathe. You can hold this pose anywhere from 10-30 seconds.

10. With control, slowly come out of the pose just the same way that you went into it.

Your Standing Bow may or may not look like mine, and it’s okay either way. In fact, it’s perfect. Be happy with wherever you are in your practice today, and don’t waste any time or energy comparing your pose or practice to anyone else’s. There’s always tomorrow to try again, and every time you try, you will improve. Be patient and let your yoga practice progress naturally at its own speed.
